Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of Thy love.

The Sacrament of Baptism

(the first of the Sacraments Initiation)

"Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons (and daughters) of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: 'Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.' "
(CCC 1213)

"Every person not yet baptized is able to be baptized" (CCC 1246)

IHM's Baptism Preparation class is held on the 2nd Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, & November. Classes are held at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph 's Church in White Rock. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Steve Willson or the church office at 662-6193.

Why Sacraments?
As humans we live in the physical world and have a physical nature. Although we also have a spiritual nature our experiences are primarily in the physical world. God, in His wisdom, meets us in the world of our senses, through the sacraments of the Church. The sacraments are real, physical events that we can touch, feel, see, hear and smell. The physical aspects are the symbols or signs of the sacrament. The marvelous thing is that they not only signify what is happening but they bring it about. God gives us his grace at our level, in a manner we can relate to, all the while calling us to Himself, reaching out to our spiritual selves.
